Development of the Month: Cromwell Road, Ellesmere Port by Muir

JV North member Muir’s Cromwell Road scheme is the latest phase of a housing regeneration development in Ellesmere Port that has been carried out over the past decade.

Brought to Muir by Lane End Developments as an off-market opportunity, 29 homes are being built with an expected January 2024 completion date.

Of these, 23 houses and apartments will be offered at affordable rent with six shared ownership houses also provided.

Funding comes from a c.£1.2 million Homes England grant that was bid for via JV North – part of a total project value of c.£5.5 million.

The site has impressive connections with Ellesmere Port town centre shops, supermarkets and cafes a short walk away, the M53 linking to Chester, Liverpool and Manchester is within a mile and a train station is found at the opposite end of Cromwell Road.

It is a great example of how a housing scheme is involving the local community with a street naming competition held at Cambridge Road Primary School.

A pupil’s entry of Astra Close – which is a nod to the Vauxhall car factory based in Ellesmere Port – won and was officially approved by Cheshire West and Chester Council.

Engagement with the school revealed significant interest in the scheme from pupils so site visits are being arranged for the summer so they can get a close up of construction in action.
